Equipped E. Ness. No. 4132 Inventory A Skeleton Key

I remember when I first started on the force. My parents were as proud as anything when I showed them my badge. My older brother, who was a scientist, especially in the chemistry department, would beam at me, while my other brothers and sisters praised me. Except for one. The oldest of my younger brothers, Carter, he was mad. Jealous, probably, at my glory, and all the attention I was getting. I guess I can understand why. He was living in the shadows of four older siblings--One a scientist, one a professor, one an actress--and one a police officer.

He started hanging out with the wrong kind of people--the type that I knew an officer would have to sooner or later arrest. I was torn, --not to sound sentimental and all that, between my brother, and my duty to the community. I finally told him he'd have to stop tagging along with the 'Gang'. He lost it. He yelled, saying things like, "They're my friends!" and, "Don't you try to ruin my life anymore than you have already!" A couple of days later, he ran away.

It had been a couple of weeks after that event, and a colleague of mine, and myself, were investigating the alleyways, after getting a report of a brawl there. I remember clearly what happened. My colleague...Officer Rambley...shouted from a nearby alleyway. I ran to his aid, and saw him staring at two bodies...one was, I recognized, the leader of the 'Gang" that Carter liked so much...and the other one...was Carter.

I had luckily learned quite a bit of 'Sherlock Holmes' tricks from my uncle. It seemed, to me, that Carter and the other guy had a fight...and Carter won, but died of injuries only a few minutes after. Finding a battered case of valuable-looking objects near the scene told me the reason.

The force, after hearing from Officer Rambley what I deduced, immediately transfered me to homicide. I realized quickly that I loved...needed this work. I didn't want more families to suffer like mine did...especially if they didn't know what happened to their loved one. Two months after I was transfered, I handed in my resignation.

I still keep in touch with Carlos, the desk sergeant. He's the one that gives me all the cases; and I haven't heard from my family ever since I quit. But, the motto on the force, was: "Never, ever stop doing your duty for the community. No matter what happens." I suppose I still follow that rule. I enjoy my new work. Some would be disgusted at the bodies, and motives, sure, some wonder how I stand it. Well, somebodies gotta do it, that's for sure.
