Brought up by wealthy parents I'd wanted for nothing but I always felt incomplete. I felt like my whole life was mapped out for me; the best schools including a Swiss finishing school for high society ladies, a token job as a secretary for one of my parents cronies then marriage and children to a man I didn't love or respect. Being a pampered princess was not what I wanted.

So I joined the army. Not even as an officer but as a simple private - my parents were horrified! I spent 8 years with people who knew nothing of my background and accepted me for who I was not what my parents had. An accident on the assault course left me with a back injury so my army life came to an end - no desk job for me thank you very much!

When I returned home my parents felt it was high time I was married and having children and over the next year they lined up a series of boring, snooty, wimpy suitors for me but I rejected them all. My parents tried to blackmail me into choosing one of them by saying that they would disinherit me and cast me out of their home if I didn't marry and settle down within a year.

So I left of my own accord and had to make my own way - wasn't this what I'd always wanted? But qualified for nothing I had no idea how I would support myself.

One evening whilst drowning my sorrows in a bar I met Lilly - a wealthy socialite and aquaintance of my parents. She said she understood how I felt as she'd been in the same situation but, fearing poverty and being an outcast, she had complied with her parents wishes. She'd regretted her decision ever since. After a few glasses of champagne Lilly confided that she'd always dreamed of being a private detective and living a life of excitement and danger. And bingo! I knew this was the life I wanted to lead.

Lilly introduced me to Preston, the local beat cop. He gave me a crash course in investigative techniqes such as how to intimidate witnesses to get more information out of them and then he gave me a lead on a potential client. I told the client I would take the case for free if he gave me a recommendation to his friends and family. I solved the case and the client kept his side of the bargain.

The rest, as they say, is history.
