Earning Skill Points - a suggestion

I've read quite a bit on how difficult it is to earn skill points later in the game and have started experiencing the drop off for myself. While I recognize that some of the intent may be to keep things from getting too easy, I find that it also removes a fun element from the game.

People play for different reasons. Some play to solve cases, to participate in the community (TH, agencies, etc), to grow their detective, or a combination of all of these. While the first two have plenty of opportunities, the third seems to almost disappear.

So my suggestion - Sleuth Academy
After a player reaches a certain exp level (100,000 for example) a new area could open up, allowing players to "learn" skill points in exchange for cash (tuition, if you will) and challenge points.

Example: Player X receives 1 skill point for $5,000 and 1 challenge point. Limit 1 class per cycle.

The player still has to earn money by playing cases or being part of a generous agency. Challenge points still have to be earned through THs or Showdowns. It adds value to the existing game play options while giving a new reward to spend on, and allowing those who want to keep learning skills (or correct an earlier error) the chance to do so.

It also allows for future skills to be added to the game later without penalizing long-time players who would find it difficult to scrape together enough skill points to learn them.

Just a thought.

How long does it take for you to get 1 skill point now?

Currently, I get 1 skill point for every 162,000 xp.
Before 3,279,170 xp, it will be 81,000 xp per skill point.
Before 1,600,000 xp, it will be 40,500 xp per skill point.

Your current xp is only 842,510 so, that will be max 40,500 xp per skill point, is that really so hard for you to get skill points? I personally don't think so. I'm not being sarcastic or anything, but just telling you the facts.

yes thanks for the mathematics Josheph, but you told me nothing i don't know.

Buying a skill point for me would cost about 80k then,
buying one for you cost 320k :P

We know you don't like the idea of buying skill points now...
but: "IF it's implemented this is how I THINK it should be done"

you want it fast, then you should do more cases, making sure you do all your cases and all are SH.

my husband does cases everyday to get where he's at now & that doesn't prove anything logic if Sleuth Admin allow players to buy their way to the top, even with skill points.

While I don't think it's really too hard right now to earn skill points, I kinda like this idea as a way to reward detectives for not getting FAs. Right now if you don't have to use your money on FAs, there's not a lot to spend it on, unless you bought every coat, which isn't really feasible without the locker. I think there should be rewards for avoiding FAs. Otherwise what's the incentive for not getting them if you can just buy your way out with money that you're not going to use anyway?

Buying skill points ARE only FOR CHEATERS.

Why do you need more skill points in the first place? Because you can't solve harder cases? Then try easier cases, isn't that what your agency members always suggest to new players?

And besides, no matter how many of you voted YES for Sleuth Admin to allow buying skill points, I can bet on it, he will NOT implement it.

Well I like the idea - you solve cases for money as well as skill points. Lia's idea means you have options on how you use the resources you gain from winning cases, the same way as buying coats to raise status rather than just earning it through solving favours.

Well, it would certainly give me something to do with this pile of worthless cash but I agree with Joseph, skills should be learnt.

I'd like to trade some of mine in for other skills because I've got too much research but it won't happen, you can bet on that.

I think it may be a good idea but it would have to cost quite a lot (not $100,000 though) and I agree with Joseph, the balance and difficulty (challenge) is what makes this game so successful. Once you can buy skill points and acquire skills, on the other end you may take the challenge out of the game (by having so many skills as to make the game too easy) for the high end players.

Some more layers to the play is always a good thing and something else to achieve would be great.

Maybe just lower the exp need for the skills just a bit so it doesn't seem impossible to get any skills at the higher levels.

I think the Admin (creator) has to balance the stats.. blah, blah, blah... I couldn't do it! I think it's an extremely well devised game with so many layers and everything works so well together.

I think though if we go into a home and find more than 3 bloody weapons we should be able to accuse them of SOMETHING despite their alibi! *grin* jk

@fixer : then your husbad must have more money and will be able to buy more skill points.

And I think that allowing to buy skill point would be a nice adaptation since they make new needs for skills as the game grow (and people make suggestions on new things to had to the game that would lead to new skills being invented)
