Cheating, Hacking and 3rd Party Software

Sleuth Admin

The following has been added to the Code of Conduct:

ILLEGAL HACKING ACTIVITIES:

Any breaches of US or international cyber crime or wire fraud laws will be prosecuted. The perpetrators will be banned permanently from Hypoware games and their Sleuth subscriptions will be forfeit without any refunds. Examples of illegal hacking include (but are not limited to): attempting to hack or compromise Hypoware server security, distributing or injecting malicious software code into either the Sleuth server or client code, launching a denial of service attack against Hypoware servers, stealing or intercepting personal or financial user records, spoofing or stealing paid Sleuth subscriptions.

BOTS AND AUTOMATED GAME SCRIPTING:

It is not permitted to create or use any program that automates Sleuth game play or circumvents the Sleuth game client in order to speed in-game advancement. Practically speaking, this rule prohibits use of any third party program, script or plugin that SENDS data to Sleuth servers. First offenses will result in loss of 50\% of detective experience and commensurate loss of skill points and skills. Subsequent offenses will result in full detective resets.

URL HACKING / WEB REQUEST SPOOFING:

Modifying, duplicating or spoofing data messages generated by the Sleuth client is considered cheating. First offenses will result in loss of 20\% of detective experience and commensurate loss of skill points and skills. Second offenses will result in loss of 50\% of detective experience and commensurate loss of skill points and skills. Subsequent offenses will result in full detective resets.

ABUSING KNOWN AND PUBLISHED EXPLOITS

If a game administrator announces and describes a particular activity or strategy to be an exploit of the game on the Message Boards, any further use of that tactic (after the announcement) will result in a full detective reset.

HELPER APS / CASE STATUS TRACKERS / CRIME SCENE SEARCHING AIDS

It is permissible to use programs, scripts or plugins that passively READ data sent from the Sleuth server

Unfortunately the tightening up of security on the server to stop bilbot bypassing the front end client has increased the workload the server has to do so much that the game is too slow to play now :(

@Cind, we are not picking on Bilbot, but he was the only person to bypass the user client front end and access the database directly.

Certainly he is clever, so is the person who takes your keys off the table in your hall by pushing a coat hanger through your letterbox and hooking them.

@Droid, bilbot was the only person that was singled out. All the others that cheated or made their way to the top by someone boosting them were not pointed out. I can't say that I agree with what bilbot did, but he at least he said what he was doing and was upfront about it. He is intelligent and more than play the game, he wanted to see how much his bot could do. If he really wanted to he could have been over and beyond what everyone else was. I think that he was more experimenting and challenging himself in a different way. The other cheaters are like the cleaver, sneeking people that you describe. We noticed that because their scores rose so fast. There was a major cheater who promoted this.

I hope that Ben does penalize the people that cheated or helped others to advance in a major way.

At any rate, that is all that I have to say on the subject.

So let the games continue..............
