Possible Solutions to Problems

Cinderella
Cinderella

If the only problem that everyone is having is with the bot, then it would be less complicated, but there are many issues that are happening in this game. Bots are just one of them.

Some solutions that I thought about:
Start the game over - Commend those that are where they are now. Write it down.

Eliminate the agencies - We would all work for Ben's Agency. We would be individual detectives in the agency each having our own page with our name and having it just to store gifts for ourselves and show the treasure that we won.

- This would eliminate boosting of any detectives.
- This would eliminate going into another detective agency just to help out for a treasure hunt.
- This would eliminate someone giving you extra money. You have so much money, so if you got an FA to pay off, you are on your own.
- The treasure hunts would be individual. - That way each individual would take responsibility for winning their own treasure hunts. More treasure hunts would have to be offered, but also you probably with have to compete with someone else, which is what the game is for anyway.
-If someone had more than I detective then that detective would be in an individual agency where cases could not be taken back and forth to boost, to give more money, to give gifts.
- It would make on less likely to cheat since they are not promoting their members in their agency.
- Ben at times could offer a group treasure hunts. You could sign up with other detectives that you would like to participate with.
- No need for case files, which I do love the case files, but this would mean that you do cases immediately or let them sit and lose time. This would not allow unsubscribed members and advantage.

I am not the creator of the game. Ben has a wonderful game, but it is taken advantage of and I know that Ben is a very busy man, and we could have this in place until these problems can be resolved with Ben's expertise. It would also give everyone a fresh new start.

Just some suggestions.

I was ready to PM you but I felt, that a public answer was appropriate and I like to answer a message the same way I received it. My apologies if I'm wrong.

Cinderella, there are *no* real problem with the game, except some bugs, our unsatisfied appetite for novelties, and the honor lists (top 30s)

Nobody is cheating and everybody is cheating: who cares?

You play the game for yourself not for or against others. The mere satisfaction to solve a case should be enough. It was no more for me, hence my new source of fun (BTW its private name is Botty). If it is no more, it is time to find new distractions or buy "create a bot for dummies".

There are only 2 ways to compete against others. That is, for me, the main design weakness of the game. One way are treasure hunts, but I won't say it is a huge success. The other are honor lists.

To be in any top 30 list, you only need to play as many cases as you can. So this is *quantity* not *quality* as it should be. I am not sure that being in the top 30 is something to be proud of (bilbot is, milmot was :)

But be careful not to play too many cases per day: other will be jealous and cast the "cheat" word on you. And it hurts ;)

Whatever new measure you'll find, there will be drawbacks or ways to "cheat" (outsmart?). Average was a more accurate measure of quality, but newbie rushing makes it unreliable. That's why, I drew Ben's attention on this subject (but it seems I failed).

Bilbot's challenge was my try at quality playing: no subscription (so no external help), no new skill (so you have to make do with what you have and choosing the detective's background was more that simply choosing a former job) and only no more than 3 unsolved games (whatever the reason). It was both a huge success for me (I didn't think I could go that high, it renewed my interest for the game, and I have now, I hope, a high level detective more suited to the new rules), and a total failure for the rest (although I thank the few players courageous enough to take the challenge).

Am I bitter? No, it is just a gam

Am I bitter? No, it is just a game.
Do I try to change things? Well I tried and I may try again. But don't bet a penny on our chances of success. Well I forgot, that Ben disallowed saving favor cases (on my suggestion?)

Why do I still play the game?

- I love to help people. As I have accumulated a good knowledge of the game, I feel that it is a pleasant "duty" to pass this knowledge to others. Hence my tips' site and my posts in the forum. No, don't thank me: it is my pleasure (If you sensed the irony, I must add to be completely honest: one moderator did thank me for what the help I provided in forums and to some players).

- I made and lost some virtual friends. Pretty boring. But I made a huge number of virtual foes, with an even greater bad faith than mine. I LOVEd debating, especially when the debate is groundless or pointless. I can tell you, we are the undisputed world champions.

The next debate should be: if you use paper and pencil, is it cheating to write with your left hand to write (when you are left handed or ambidextrous) and use your mouse with the right (in the "not left" sense) hand, so you can write *and* move your mouse at the same time, whereas a right handed player can't use his/her mouse and write, so (s)he loses a few seconds. Please don't start debating this issue: this is a joke.

- It gives me an occasion to practice my American English and to teach some French words here and there. La vie n'est-elle pas belle? In the real life, I need to be serious although joking is my real nature. Here I can joke even while looking serious.

- And Botty opens, for me, a new field of experimentation.

I am not a young person and I can't do as many games as the younger people as I am not fast enough, so that does put me at a disadvantage. With Cinderella I struggled to get where I was at. I was on alot. I practically lived on the site. I would do all nighters. I could not do a case while chatting with someone.

I am also left-handed and I use the mouse with my right hand because when I learned to type at a community college, the stations were set up for right handed people. But it is advantageous because I can write while I do use the mouse with my right hand.

A friend is a friend is a friend. It is nice to discuss things without someone disliking someone. We are all different and individuals so if you lose someone as your friend then I guess they were not a friend to begin with.

But I think that you are right. Someone is going to find ways to get around everything.

So may the games continue....

Whatever Joseph, I am too busy to play this type of a game. It is very nice that you can speak and write in several languages.

That's his native language. He uses it every day like I use Finnish. For us, as for many others here too, English is a foreign language, and really can't express our thoughts properly. So no game, but real life.
